I would kill Tom because he is far too much and just the thought of having to speak to him would more than likely anger me. Tom is your typical run-of-the-mill abuser, he has serious control issues and takes it out on those around him. According to the text “, Tom was feeling the hot whips of panic… instinct made him step on the accelerator with the double purpose of overtaking Daisy, and leaving Wilson behind.” When Tom feels that he isn’t able to fully control what's around him, he takes it out on his wife, friends, and mistress. Overall he doesn't seem to be a fun person to be around whatsoever.

I would marry Nick because I feel as though we would get along very well, and don’t have polarizing personalities. To begin, Nick isn’t that much of a party person and seems as though he is very awkward in certain high-pressure social situations, because of this I don’t think he would ever try and force me to go out. According to the text “I was one of the few guests who had actually been invited.” unlike some of the recurring guests at gatsby’s parties, Nick made no move to actively search it out, instead he waited until he had gotten a personal invitation. Nick and I would also still be able to go out and date other people, because Nick is gay, and I’m not interested in Nick. This means that we would both still have our independence and get to continue living our lives. According to the text, “Mr. Mckee was a pale feminine man… then Mr. Mckee turned and continued out the door… I was standing beside his bed and he was sitting up between the sheets, clad in his underwear” Considering how most men treated their wives back in the 20’s I would be more than happy to be Nick’s coverup.

I would only kiss Gatsby because, despite all of the money and the charming personality, he’s extremely manipulative, and just expects daisy to be completely devoted to him, something I would not have the patience for. According to the text “Gatsby’s eyes opened and closed, ‘You loved me too?’” Gatsby is so insecure in his relationship with Daisy that he can’t handle hearing that she at some point loved another man. This is yet another example of a rapidly devolving abusive relationship, now that they’ve passed the honeymoon phase, and he’s fully entrapped her, he wants to be the only thing in her world.

I would marry Jordan because I think that she would help me go out and meet new people, and I also think that she would be willing to go out and conversate with anyone, without a predisposition about class, looks, race, etc. I also think that because of Jordan’s busy lifestyle we wouldn’t have to spend every minute of our lives together, she's already very independent, unlike Daisy or Gatsby, so I wouldn’t have to worry about easing her insecurities, and getting to focus on myself. According to the text “Jordan Baker instinctively avoided clever, shrewd men, and I now saw that this was because she felt safer on a plane where any divergence from a code would be thought impossible.” This means that unlike Daisy of Myrtle Jordan isn’t going to put herself in a bad situation that could leave her a risk. This is crucial because this means that she isn’t going to be bringing any of those kinds of people back to me, whereas both Daisy and Myrtle get out of one abusive situation just to put themselves in another.

I would kiss Myrtle because if I spent longer than 5 minutes alone with her I would probably go insane. Myrtle has a very loud, attention-seeking, and abrasive personality, and like Tom, I would have to be patient for it. According to the text “I almost married a little kyke who’d been after me for years. I knew he was below me.” There is something in being humble and having respect for other people, that can cause people to gravitate towards you. Myrtle is extremely lacking in this department, despite being lower class herself, she still chooses to look down on others around her in a desperate ply to get higher on the social chain. I despise these kinds of people, and we could never get along.

I would kill Daisy because in a sense I do feel as though she had the cards set up against her, and similar to Myrtle, people who often come from abusive relationships aren’t even aware of how a healthy relationship is supposed to work and fail to set boundaries with their partners. However, it was Daisy’s choice to marry Tom for his money, just as much as it was her choice to have a child and completely neglect her existence. Because of all of these factors, I feel ass though Daisy had much more of a chance than Myrtle to get out and find her independence, instead, she chose to put herself and her child at risk. According to the text “I returned rather feebly to the subject of her daughter. ‘I supposed she talks, and- eats, and everything.’” Daisy is also raising her daughter to think that this kind of treatment from men is normal and acceptable, as well as giving her child a definite form of abandonment issues from her general lack of maternal instincts.
