Which Gastby Party would you choose?

From the raging alcoholism to the scandals left and right, parties in the Great Gatsby are like no other. The real question is, whose party would you actually want to go to? Daisy’s party was relatively small and simple, yet ran through a roller oyster of emotions and controversial topics. Myrtle’s party was also relatively small but far from the same level of peace as Daisy’s. However, Gatsby’s party was one great free for all, which contained both loud and peaceful elements.

The first area that Nick enters is a lounge-like room with open windows and a couch to relax on, causing the room to give off a very relaxed and casual atmosphere. Daisy and Jordan are there laying on the couch. Daisy's personality has a people pleasing mentality, which can cause her to come off as artificial or stuck up. Whereas, Jordan is a much more independent thinker, which means you would be able to hold an interesting conversation. The second area that Nick is led onto is the porch, which outlooks the sunset. Here there is a sitting area along with some simple areas. Fitzgerald may be trying to warn you ahead of time as the sun is setting right as they are going down. Tom, Daisy, Jordan, and Nick are all gathered together, speaking on the ‘The Rise of Colored Empires’, and from there the conversation turns to Tom’s scandal. The house itself is displayed in an almost angelic way, it is a traditional white house, giving a pure and clean look.

Much like Myrtle's conscience, her apartment is a crowded mess. Furniture that doesn’t fit takes up any personal space available, and a poorly photo is the only excuse for a decoration. Myrtle invited Mr. and Mrs. Mcknee, as well as her younger sister Catherine. Mr. McKnee is genuinely respectful of others around him and does take on much of a role. However, Mrs. Mcknee is the life of the party, and unlike her husband, she takes up as much space as she can. Throughout Myrtle’s party, she is walking around and intervening on their private matters, blatantly acting out for attention, and bothering everyone around her. Catherine, while not as outwardly sinister, often stirs the pot, by talking about her own sister behind her back. The overall atmosphere seems loud, busty, and invasive. The apartment offers no privacy, as not even Nick could speak to Catherine without Myrtle overhearing.

The entrance that Nick originally enters is filled with decadent decorations, fancy foods, and an orchestra in full swing. The bar is filled with people and everyone is wandering in and about. The guests at Gatsby’s party ranged from person to person, anyone could enter and party, and guests ranged from the upper and lower class. While wandering around Nick runs into multiple people whom he had seen on the train or in the city. After looking for almost the entirety of the party Nick finds Gatsby in the garden facing the moonlight sitting with another girl. Gatsby is genuine and indifferent to judgment of any kind. He makes those around him feel comfortable or understood, and heard.

If I were to choose one of these parties to go to I would go to Gatsby's Party. While I still believe I would thoroughly dislike any of these parties, I think that Gatsby's party would be the most bearable. Unlike Daisy’s and Myrtle’s parties, Gatsby's party did not give off a classist vibe. Anyone could attend his party, and all different types and groups of people attend, meaning I would most likely find someone to talk to. While I don’t think I would mind meeting Jordan, I do not in any way have the patience to deal with the ignorance of Daisy and Myrtle, nor do I have the patience for Tom’s racist speils.
